A traditional X-ray is a flat photograph of a three-dimensional problem. Our cone beam CT (CBCT) scanner captures your teeth, jawbone, nerves, and sinuses in full 3D, giving your dentist the same calibre of imaging used in hospital surgical planning, right here in our downtown Kamloops office.
CBCT lets us measure your bone height, width, and density to the fraction of a millimetre and place implants in the safest, strongest position, away from nerves and sinuses.
Impacted wisdom teeth often sit close to the nerve that runs through the lower jaw. A 3D scan shows the exact relationship before any extraction is planned.
Some infections and extra root canals simply do not show on 2D X-rays. CBCT finds them, which means fewer mystery toothaches and more predictable treatment.
3D imaging supports assessment of the jaw joints and upper airway, informing treatment for grinding, jaw pain, and sleep-disordered breathing.
The scan is quick and comfortable: you stand still while the unit rotates around your head for a few seconds. Modern CBCT units are engineered for dramatically lower radiation than medical CT scanners, and we only prescribe a 3D scan when it materially changes the quality or safety of your care.
