What Counts as a Dental Emergency?

Call us right away if you have:

Important: if you have facial swelling accompanied by fever, difficulty swallowing, or difficulty breathing, go to the nearest emergency department first. These can be signs of a spreading infection that needs immediate medical care.

What to Do Before You Reach Us

Knocked-Out Adult Tooth

Handle it by the crown, not the root. If it is clean, try to reseat it gently in the socket; otherwise store it in milk or inside your cheek and get to us within 60 minutes if at all possible. Speed matters more than anything else.

Severe Toothache

Rinse with warm salt water, floss gently to dislodge any trapped debris, and use an over-the-counter pain reliever as directed on the package. Do not place aspirin against the gum; it burns the tissue.

Cracked or Broken Tooth

Save any fragments, rinse your mouth with warm water, and apply a cold compress to the cheek to limit swelling.

Lost Crown or Filling

Keep the crown if you have it. Avoid chewing on that side and cover any sharp edge with dental wax from a pharmacy until we can see you.

Why Kamloops Patients Choose Us in an Emergency

With cone beam 3D imaging, same-day CEREC crowns, and in-house sedation options, we can usually diagnose and fully treat your emergency in one place, often in one visit, rather than patching you up and referring you elsewhere.
