It looks like tooth. Layered and polished to match surrounding enamel exactly. It bonds. Unlike old silver amalgam, which is held by mechanical undercuts, composite adheres to tooth structure, meaning smaller preparations and more of your natural tooth preserved. It is mercury-free. For patients who prefer metal-free dentistry, composite delivers it without compromise. It is repairable. Small chips in a composite can often be patched rather than replaced.
The same material, applied artistically, repairs chipped edges, closes small gaps, lengthens worn teeth, and masks stubborn spots, usually in one visit, without anesthetic, at a fraction of veneer cost. It is the most underrated procedure in cosmetic dentistry.
Only when there is a reason: cracks, decay underneath, or fracture lines in the surrounding tooth, all of which we can show you on the intra-oral camera. We do not recommend replacing sound fillings just to replace them, and we will tell you which of yours are which.
