A first visit is an assessment: an examination, imaging where it genuinely informs your care, an oral cancer screening, and a plain conversation about what we found. The late teens and early twenties are exactly when wisdom teeth make themselves known. Not all of them need removing — that depends on position, space and whether they are causing or likely to cause problems. Insurance and Costs
We bill most insurers directly where the plan permits, which means you generally pay only the remaining portion rather than claiming it back yourself.

Dentistry on a Student Budget
Cost is usually the real reason a check-up gets postponed, so it is worth being direct about it.
An examination and cleaning is the cheapest appointment in dentistry and the one that prevents the expensive ones. Almost every large bill we quote began as something that would have been a routine filling eighteen months earlier.
If treatment is needed, you get a written estimate first, and we will tell you plainly what is urgent and what can reasonably wait until the end of term or until coverage renews. Phasing treatment is completely normal and nobody will push you to do everything at once.
If you have no coverage at all, say so. It changes the conversation about sequencing, not the standard of care.
A Note on Coming Back Each Year
For students who leave Kamloops over the summer, the practical pattern that works is a check-up early in the fall term and another before the winter break, which keeps you on a roughly six-month interval without needing an appointment while you are away.
If you graduate and move on, ask us to forward your records to your new dentist. It is straightforward and it saves you repeating imaging unnecessarily.
