Whether you have just moved to Kamloops or your longtime dentist retired, choosing a new dental office is a decision you will live with for years. Here is a practical checklist, and yes, we are a dental office writing it, so we will keep it honest enough to be useful anywhere you land.
Can they handle your predictable future, cleanings, kids, crowns, root canals, implants, orthodontics, or will every second need mean a referral across town? Offices with broad in-house capability save you time, repeated freezing, and coordination headaches.
Ask three specific questions: Are X-rays digital (lower radiation)? Can crowns be done in one visit? Is 3D imaging available for implants and extractions? The answers separate offices investing in your experience from those coasting.
If you carry any dental anxiety, and a third of adults do, look for laughing gas and oral sedation on the menu, and pay attention to whether the office talks about anxiety respectfully or not at all.
Direct insurance billing, written estimates before treatment, and a front desk willing to explain your coverage are worth real money and real peace. A good office tells you the cost before the freezing, every time.
Location and parking you will actually tolerate twice a year, hours that fit your work, and how the office handles emergencies. Ask: "If I break a tooth on a Tuesday, what happens?" The answer is revealing.
Book a new-patient exam and notice: Did they rush? Did they explain findings on screen where you could see them? Did recommendations come with reasons and options, or pressure? Trust builds in the first visit or it does not.
